Merrybellies Belly Arts
Henna (Mehndi) Body Art
Henna has been used since ancient times in the Middle East, North Africa, and India. Also known as mehndi, the cool green paste of the sweetly flowering henna plant stains the skin red, orange, & brown, and feels & smells wonderful when applied!
Henna History (The Henna Page Web Site)
I make my own henna paste, combining pure henna leaf with all-natural ingredients.
The temporary design lasts 7 to 10 days, depending on factors such as where the henna has been applied, how the henna was cared for, and skin type. Contemporary, traditional, and custom designs available.
Depending on what type of design(s) you desire, you may make a private appointment, schedule a party, or get henna-ed at an event.

I bring to my henna practice more than a decade of experience as a professional artist. I've earned a BA in fine arts (Amherst College, summa cum laude, highest honors for painting thesis) and an MA in art history (University of Massachusetts, Amherst). I've studied Islamic art and Oriental carpets in graduate school, and specialized in Modern Art. I've also studied African Art, as well as "Western" Art.
I first began working with henna in 2001, while in graduate school and also studying to be a midwife at WomanCraft Midwifery with Beth Anne Moonstone. I graduated from the advanced program in midwifery, attended births as an apprentice and later as a doula (for seven years), and have henna-ed a lot of pregnant bellies!
My henna experience includes private commissions as well as public events such as benefits, birthday parties, and cultural festivals. I also do henna for weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, blessingways, or mother's blessings, and other celebrations of rites of passage. I've been working with henna since 2001, and use my own formula. Ingredients include high quality professional henna, pure essential oils, and other natural, food-grade components.
I serve the tri-state region of Northwest Georgia, Tennessee (Chattanooga area), and Northeast Alabama. I will travel a reasonable distance for events and private commissions. If travel time exceeds 1 1/2 hours, I may need to add a travel charge.
Private appointments and parties may also be arranged at my home studio in Ringgold, Georgia, Moon Haven, a lovely and fun environment for small to medium-sized gatherings.
I love to do henna parties for children as well as adults.
Henna suits all occasions.
